A CALENDAR that depicts Wexford is in its very best light has raised over €4,000 for three local charities. Created by local photographer Kenny Goodison, the calendar showcases some of the finest scenery in the county, with each photo taken during the corresponding month of the year.
As well as iconic shots of sunrises and sunsets on Wexford Quay, the calendar contains images taken at Hook Head, Kilmore Quay, Tintern Abbey, Ferrycarrig and Curracloe, among others. In addition to the calendar, which is priced at €20, Mr Goodison sold specially designed Christmas cards for €25 over the festive period, with all proceeds being split between Wexford SPCA, Pieta House and Wexford People Helping People (WPHP).
“I was able to raise €1,533 for each of the charities,” said Mr Goodison, “but it was all down to the people of Wexford and their continued generosity; they’re so good at supporting local charities. So many people donated extra, and some gave money even though they weren’t buying the calendar.”
Estimating that there are approximately 20 calendars left, he said they can still be purchased in the Wexford SPCA branch in Wexford town and Boggan’s on Newtown Road. And, despite the year only being a few days old, he is already planning the 2023 calendar. Thanking all the shops who stocked the calendar and all those who donated, Mr Goodison said he hopes to make his calendar an annual fixture.
“The plan is to continue it every year and mix up the charities. I’ll keep the SPCA, as they’re close to my heart, but I will choose a couple of different ones alongside it every year,” he said.
